Built strong enough to outlast anything, and comfortable enough to call home.
Underground steel-arch shelters for families who'd rather be ready than rescued.
Start HereWatch the BuildWhat we build
- Tunnel shelters: galvanized steel arches, 12 ft wide and about 9 ft tall at the peak.
- Quonset builds: for anything wider than 12 ft.
- Your crew, our know-how: you build with local subcontractors or your own hands, and we provide the plans, videos and guidance.
Who it's for
Landowners who want a family or community shelter, people in tornado and hurricane country who want a storm shelter, and hands-on builders who want to do it right the first time.
How it works
- Tell us about your land. Fill out the Start Here questionnaire.
- Check your property. Book the $200 Property Suitability call with Dave, which includes the build video.
- Plan the build. Get the step-by-step videos and Start to Finish support.
- Build it. Use your crew, our arches, and Dave's guidance along the way.
Built by people who've done it
"I've built about ten undergrounds myself. The early ones were standard crib builds, then I came up with the arch design and built six of those, two of them hobbit tunnels." — Dave

What does it cost?
A complete 12×40 with a basic interior has run about $120,000, and the shell alone about $85,000. These are rough estimates based on a recent build, not a quote or a guarantee. Your real cost depends on your site, county, local subcontractors, and how much of the work you do yourself, so get written bids. Viking Shelters provides plans, video and advice. We don't set, control or guarantee your project's final cost.
